Packers get Favre's heir apparent?

I was thrilled watching the draft as Green Bay's turn came closer and former Cal QB Aaron Rodgers was still on the board. I was looking ahead and thought they had a decent shot of getting him and sure enough he was still there when the Packers picked 24th in the first round. Some people criticized it since Rodgers probably won't play at all this year, except maybe in mop up duty if the Pack has a big lead, but I thought it was a good move. You have a future Hall of Famer at QB who is 36 and has talked the past couple of off seasons about retirement, so you snatch up talent like this when you can get it. I think Favre might come back for one more year after this, two at most and then be done. Or he could even call it quits after this season, who knows?

Hopefully Rodgers has a long career ahead of him as the future starting QB of the Packers.

The Chiefs finally get their man

After weeks and months of speculation that it might or might not happen, the Chiefs pulled the trigger (Finally!) and traded for All Pro Miami Dolphin CB Patrick Surtain. The Chiefs gave up a second rounder this year to get him, and already reached a long term deal with Surtain. That should be a huge upgrade for the Chiefs secondary. He is another addition to try and upgrade a horrible defense. The Chiefs have also acquired former Steeler LB Kendrell Bell, S Sammy Knight and DE Carlos Hall this offseason to try and improve the defense. Def. Coordinator Gunther Cunningham has got to be thrilled to death to be getting some new talent on defense. For the most part they are young or fairly young guys, so that is another plus. Bell and Hall have only been around 2 or 3 years if I remember correctly.

Here is a story about the Surtain deal from Yahoo Sports:

Sam Mills passes away.

I was shocked to see that Sam Mills died the other day. I knew he was fighting cancer, but I didn't know that he was in that bad of shape. The man showed us that you didn't have to 6'-3" 250 to play linebacker. Sam only was about 5'-9" and 225 or so, but he played the position like an All-Pro, which he was on more than one occasion. As I recall, that linebacking crew he was on with the Saints was one of the best ever, besides Sam they had Rickey Jackson, Vaughn Johnson, can't recall who the fourth guy was, but they were a great group.

Sam was a class act who will be missed.

This is just plain dumb

The Indians are trying to force the Redskins to change their name again, saying it disparages them. That is about as dumb of thing as I have ever heard. When I hear the Washington Redskins I think about Joe Theismann, John Riggins, Art Monk, the Smurfs, the Hogs, the Diesel, Darrell Green and other guys but not indians.

Thing the indians need to find something else to worry about. They should have to prove it has harmed them, which we now it has not.

Here is a story about this, hopefully some foolish liberal judge won't side with them on this one.

TO, what is your deal man?

Apparently TO does not think he is being paid enough, I guess I can understand why he would think that with his 7 year, $49 million dollar deal that he signed last year. I heard a report the other day that he said he proved in the past year that he was the best receiver so he should be paid like it. The funny thing is, TO has always had a huge ego, and he has thought he was the best receiver in the game the past 5 years so I am confused.

Hey TO, you are already being paid like it, so shut up and do you job. Quit bitching.
